Community Food

This week I was told that you can pick a pomegranate when its still unripe, it will ripen off the tree and when it “explodes” it’s ripe to eat.  Apparently they literally spit open and tell you they’re ripe and ready to eat.

I’ve now identified 3 heavily laden trees within about a 100m radius of me with tons of fruit that their owners don’t seem to be eating.  Which strikes me as sad, because if they’re not eating it chances are they’re not looking after the tree which means the tree is not likely to live as long ……

Which brings me to the Daylesford Community Garden who have just had their March working bee – I think it’s great that the community have taken land that wasn’t being used and turned it into a productive food garden for the locals.
